An important addition to the library of any New Beetle owners
If you're looking at this item it is probably because you, or someone you know, owns a Volkswagen New Beetle. The first thing you probably will notice is the price. This book is not cheap and is easy to dismiss because of the price. However, each time you take your Beetle to a dealership odds are you will pay significantly more to repair it in labor charges alone. When this book arrived I was shocked at the weight, this book is MASSIVE. It is loaded with information about anything you may need to know about your vehicle. Don't let the price-tag fool you, if you want to learn more about your car, this book is very important to own.

The Bible for New Beetle
If you own a New Beetle then this manual is for you. Same one the techs at the dealership refer to. You will not be disappointed. I save a bunch of money fixing what I thought was complex and turned out easy with the use of this manual.

The details for the repairs I have had to do on my Volkswagen are nicely illustrated in this manual, with clear step-by-step directions. Service Manual for Volkswagens
I can honestly say that this is the manual I recommended to all of my Volkswagen owning friends. All of them. Surprisingly all of them bought it. Not only does this manual help me fix problems that are serious to moderate to just plain weird it helps me learn alot about my car as well. It helped me learn the things I need to get my car "Bella" the Volkswagen in a better shape. I recently had to change my water pump and I was going to take it to the mechanic which cost me alot of money, and instead of taking it to the mechanic I used the simple knowlege and the manual and I changed my water pump. Great book, but consider getting the CD instead
This Bentley repair manual is actually very, very good. It's a massive book with loads of useful information about the Jetta. It is so much better than what I had (which was the web). It is better than the typical Chilton or Hayes manuals, which I've owned a dozen of over the years.I'm fairly mechanically inclined. I change the fluids and do all the routine maintenance myself. I had even changed the timing belt twice before getting the manual. When I go looking to a manual, I'm looking for details that can't be readily observed by a somewhat competent shade tree mechanic/driving enthusiast.When I bought the manual, I was repairing a couple electrical issues on my TDI Jetta (bad fan control module and failed fan) and despite having a decent electrical diagram, it did not have enough information to actually diagnose the exact problem. I got further information from the Bentley support forums (yeah, the guys that write the book support the purchasers of it!) and...

Excellent source of knowledge for BMW repairs
I bought this manual when I decided it was time to start doing my own maintenance on my 5 series. My brake wear indicator came on showing that I was in need of brake pads and rotors, so having this book was invaluable when the time came to do the job. I had done some checking on dealer prices and found that a brake job can run anywhere from $800 - $1200. With the help of this manual, I did it myself for the cost of the parts and a few hours of work. The manual is rather expensive, but I saved about four times as much just on the brake job. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to work on their own cars.

Excellent Overall Manual
Look, let's face it. BMWs are getting increasingly complicated. If you really want to break down your engine completely, maybe you shouldn't be working with such an advanced piece of hardware. (The analogy is like a woodworking hobbyist attempting to build an office building.) So it makes sense that the manual doesn't cover the process of rebuilding an M62 engine to the Nth degree. I've had 9 BMWs and 9 Bentley manuals. My only replacement engine came from a crate. What this manual does cover is the practical aspects of maintianing and servicing your own car, including troubleshooting dozens of issues and maintaining many body, electrical, mechanical, engine and transmission parts and functions. For that purpose it is a great manual.The second volume all about the electrical system and is almost entirely schematics. Every single wire in every year of every version of the E39 is identified. Very disappointed
The books claim to address the M52 and M62 engines. Not a word about the subassemblies of either engine(the biggest part of an engine) The same information seems to be repeated in several places in the book. Gives the impression they are trying to make up volume. I believe the hype aboute the book is misleading since the publisher claims they strived for completeness. You cannot claim to cover an engine and then leave the largest part of it unattended. Price tag quite stiff with an ommision like that. E-mailed Bentley several times no response. In comparing this to the Bentley book on the E30 - It is a shame at the price.

Worth every penny
As someone who is accustomed to do it yourself car repairs and domestic service manuals, I was completely impressed with the quality of this book.No fuzzy black and white photos. Full of detailed exploded view drawings and very detailed and deliberate instruction. It leaves very little to the imagination, but that is the point.In 6 weeks this book has saved me $600 in timing belt replacement labor and $200 in CV Joint boot replacement.So much information, start marking the pages early or you may find yourself thumbing through the 2k pages looking for that exact diagram you know you saw.This book is worth every penny.

must have for passat owners
The step by step instuctions in this book are easy enough for anyone to be able to do minor maintenance by themselves. It is absolutly necessary if you want to do a decent job of maintaining your car without taking it to the dealer every 5k miles. It's written with the average driver in mind and will teach you a lot about your car. I recommend it if you're interested in keeping your Passat in tip-top shape.I bought this along with the Actron code scanner...they work great together. The book has a list of all the codes (including manufacturer specific codes) with definitions for all of them.

VW Passat Manual
Manual has very useful information regarding maintenance and repair of VW Passat. Some of the pictures however, are not actual pictures but drawings of actual components. My Passat is a W8 and some of the proceedures are not very clear. Overall it was a good investment buying this manual considering what the VW dealer charges for repair.

Perfect
this was just what I needed at a very fair price, hence my title.Having recently purchased a used 2001 TT, I did not have many of the intitial manuals, etc that explain the functionality of the car. I found this manual on Amazon.com for about $30 less than I'd seen it elsewhere and ordered it. I was expecting a used or second rate copy but I was delighted to receive a brand new copy in perfect condition. The book itself is very heavy on electrical diagnostics. It takes up a huge part of it so if you are more interested in the hardware (engine, drive train, etc) other editions may offer a little more. You won't know without comparing them so I suggest trying to find a copy at your local public library first to look at before you purchase. Because I've used Bentley manuals many times, I know their quality to be consistently at or above Hanes or Chilton and I would choose nothing less for a TT.

TT bias
Though I agree that the manual has an incredible amount of information, and is very useful; I must also admit that it tends to leave out useful information necessary for the home enthusiast. Specificly it does not mention that in order to remove the front bumper cover assembly, one needs to block up the car, remove the front wheels, and remove the wheel well covers in order to reveal the two appropriate screws on each side. This may be a no brainer to someone who regularly works on these cars, but is not an obvious step for those of us who haven't.

The History of Christianity by David Bentley Hart
This is a magnificent and beautiful book. Exquisitely illustrated, it's the history of Christianity in brief -- as complete as one volume can put it and in words easily read and understood by the reader. It's easily worth several times what it costs, as it leaves one with a new assurance of what he or she believes and knows about Christianity. In very few words, Hart displays his excellent knowledge of the sweep of Christianity from its beginning to the present. There is beauty in both the illustrations and the prose. I highly recommend it!

Good highlights of lesser-known churches
Professor Hart is an Eastern Orthodox Christian, but as in many of his works, he gives considerable (and fair) attention to the West. He doesn't cover any new ground in this book that one wouldn't also find in the standard church history book, but he does cover old ground from new angles. In discussing the different epochs of Church History, Hart asks the reader questions that only an Easterner would ask, causing the reader to pause for reflection and to come away with a richer understanding of his faith. In this review I will focus on several areas that Westerners do not either speak of or speak of in simplistic terms: Christology, Asian Christianities, and the struggle for faith in the 19th Century. Wonderful...
Brilliantly written and beautifully illustrated, this excellent book is an exacting, fair-minded and eloquent look at both Christian AND human history. Hart's truly astounding knowledge of church/Christian history and his remarkable writing skills are on full display here, with his observations and story re-telling complimented by sometimes lovely, oft-times heart-rending and all-times exquisite illustrations, artwork and photographs. (This entry from Mr. Hart is aimed at a wider, more public audience than much of his other work. For those of you familiar with his more academic oeuvre, be prepared for a much more reader-friendly, and lovely, style of prose -a style and imagery often hinted at in his scholarly works but loosed here, in this less constricted writing environment, in all its' glory.) As one other reviewer mentioned, for a one-volume compendium on such a complex and exhaustive subject, this is as thorough and comprehensive a treatment as one can get. Whether...
